Peridot

Peridot is the birthstone of August.  

The name Peridot comes from the Persian word "faridat," meaning green gem. This stone has been used since around 1500 BC and was worn by people in ancient Egypt and Rome for good luck and protection from evil spirits. Peridot is found near volcanic areas such as Arizona and Hawaii, but today, most peridots come from Myanmar. The unique green color of Peridot crystals has inspired many myths and legends, making it a special gemstone.
